Dress Performance

Thora Karlsdottir
Dress Performance
Akureyri Art Museum, Ketilhús
September 10ᵗʰ - November 13ᵗʰ

Thora Karlsdottir (born 1962) displays the results of a nine month long dress art performance, which was ongoing from March to December 2015. Dressing up in a new dress every morning and wearing a dress for every task, for 280 days; 40 weeks; nine months, is a challenge, which requires stamina and perseverance. When undertaking a daily creative commitment, anything can happen! The dresses were donations from people who gave them for art’s sake.

Björn Jónsson photographed Thora in a dress every day. His work was a large part of the process. His comments and ideas influenced the location and processing of the photographs and together Björn and Thora will publish a book on the Dress Performance.

Thora Karlsdottir graduated in 2013 from the Europäische Kunstakademie in Trier, Germany. She has held nine solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions, both domestically and abroad. Thora operates the studio Lifandi vinnustofa (e. Living Studio) in Listagil, Akureyri.
