During the post-war years industry boomed in Akureyri and the majority of residents were connected to the factories in Gleráreyrar in one way or another, being the biggest employer in town. Operations at the factories came to an end in the 1990s, and before long a shopping centre was built on the premises. What is left of the factories‘ history today can only be found at the museums in Akureyri.

The idea behind this exhibition is to honor the past and particularly those who worked at the factories, and also to remind us of the influence the factories had on the community in Akureyri.

Halldóra Helgadóttir (born 1949) graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Akureyri School of Visual Arts in 2000 and has since then held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad.
