Sanctuary

Einar Falur Ingólfsson
Sanctuary
Akureyri Art Museum, Ketilhús
March 4ᵗʰ - April 16ᵗʰ

The exhibition Sanctuary consists of a selection of photographs from four interrelated series, which Einar Falur Ingólfsson (born 1966) has been working on during the last decade. The Swiss curator Christoph Kern selected the pieces for this exhibition from the series Sanctuary, Shelter, Reykjanes Motorway and Historical Sites. In these series Einar Falur addresses man and Icelandic nature; nature’s forces, man’s attempt to exist within and along with nature, adjust it to meet his needs, defend himself against it, but also take refuge in it. The photos are all shot with 4 x 5-inch sheet film.

Einar Falur’s photographs have, during the past few years, been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Iceland, Europe and the USA. Einar Falur holds a BA degree in literature from the University of Iceland and a MFA degree in photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York. He works as a visual artist, writer and journalist.
