Tumi Magnússon (born 1957) studied at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and the AKI in Enschede, The Netherlands.

The use of found objects, photographs, drawings and 8 mm films in the beginning of his career, led Magnússon in the early eighties to painting in a figurative style. During the next years his approach to painting developed into what can be described as an expanded and conceptual field rather than a traditional understanding of the medium. This culminated in series of works in which the experience of time in relation to physical space was a central aspect. Magnússon continued his research after the turn of the century, creating photographic installations, and video/audio installations, where the image and/or sound are perceived as a sculptural event.
