Baldvin Ringsted (born 1974) is born and raised in Akureyri, but now lives and works in Scotland. He works with diverse materials and mediums such as paintings, print, sculptures and video. Ringsted graduated with an MA degree from Glasgow School of Art in Scotland in 2007, his prior studies were at Akureyri School of Visual Arts and Lahti Polytechnic School of Art in Finland. His works have been exhibited far and wide and he recently received an award from The Scottish Landscape Awards.

In this exhibition, Ringsted shows a recent body of work using found embroidery to create new landscapes. He is fascinated by the “voodoo-power“ of everyday things and how they carry with them the weight of memories. Each found piece contains forgotten memories from houses that have been inherited, sold or renovated.

Ringsted puts these fragments together, gives them a new life and a chance to grow from the wasteland. The result is an alarming, familiar – yet distant – and surreal landscape.
